Guitar 08/109

Classical Model 08 small-bodied Torres shape X-braced guitar. 640mm scale-length.

This guitar was made for Lydia Sanderson. This is the second guitar commissioned by her - see the first one here. The same requirements of prettiness and ease of playing without compromising sound applied. She liked the response of the X-brace build, but this time I put it in a smaller body and used a harder timber, satinwood, for the back and sides. The satinwood is dazzling to see in the flesh, and I inlaid many mother-of-pearl dots in the front rosewood purfling to set it off even more. I designed a "meander" pattern mosaic for the purfling and rosette borders, but retained the floral mosaic motif for the rosette that I'd designed for her previous guitar.

Fitted with hammered silver Nicolo Alessi Hauser style tuning machines with dark mother-of-pearl buttons.

Lydia Sanderson wrote:

"...I love my guitar. I am back in heaven playing it. For some reason I can play my new one much better. The sounds are fantastic and it fits me better. The little (body) size makes it easier. I love the richness of the sound and of the colour. Your detail is exquisite. Thanks it is perfect. It the prettiest little guitar ever!"

"...Just a note to rave about my guitar. What joy! I am having a ball.

...teacher was very impressed and admired it greatly especially those amazing bass notes. It is easier to play ... Maybe the size, I don't know, but I am making some decent sounds!"
