Model 08 – Torres 1864

Upper bout259 mm
Waist217 mm
Lower bout353 mm
Body length476 mm

I first designed this shape in 1998 – a small-bodied guitar inspired by Antonio de Torres F.E. 13 built in 1860. I made some minor revisions to the shape in subsequent years. When I build it fan-braced I use 5 braces, like the original. It works well with X-bracing too, both for classical ( using Alpine Spruce or Western Red Cedar for the front) and for other playing styles, where additional soundboard materials could be employed, such as Port Orford Cedar, or Yellow Cedar.

It works well with both 650mm and 640mm scale-lengths.

The one pictured is Spruce/Indian 640mm X-braced version built in 2016 and fitted with Alessi Hauser 7 tuning machines with snakewood buttons.
